TikTok beats YouTube in launching native Apple Vision Pro app

TikTok uses the Vision Pro's spatial computing capabilities for its short-form videos.

With the release of a new native experience for Apple's Vision Pro headset, TikTok has joined the growing collection of apps available on the visionOS App Store. On Thursday, the news was revealed through a post on the well-known social media network X.

Through an immersive manner of viewing short-form films on the new gadget, the platform now provides Vision Pro users with a spatial computing experience tailored to the capabilities of the headset.

Considering how well-liked TikTok is among Gen Z consumers, Apple has pulled off a significant coup with this acquisition. The spatial computing experience offered by the app may draw attention to how well the Vision Pro can handle short-form video.

Concerns were raised at first regarding the Vision Pro's limited native app experiences at launch. Reportedly, there were only about 150 applications accessible as of early January. But by early February, this number had increased significantly to 600.

App engagement is still rather low right now. A lot of developers claim only a few hundred downloads. However, engagement should increase when more well-known applications become accessible.

It has been difficult to support native apps; at first, big companies like YouTube, Spotify, and Netflix rejected the creation of Vision Pro apps. Aside from weight and discomfort, of course, one of the most often mentioned reasons for returning the headset was lack of appropriate app support.

But YouTube did reveal earlier this month that they were going to release a Vision Pro app. This suggests that YouTube's Shorts feature may pose a threat to TikTok shortly.
